Description
Mather Point
The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited places in the United States. Located in northwestern Arizona over 4 million visitors experience the awesome beauty that is reported to be millions of years in the making. The color of the views is always changing with the light and clouds and sunrise and sunsets are, at times, breathtaking!
The Canyon is over 22 miles long, 18 miles wide and 1 mile deep. The Colorado River snakes through the canyon and is known for adventurous white-water rafting. The classic El Tovar Lodge is rustic and beautiful. Camping and hiking are just a few ways to enjoy the park, a family adventure. The South Rim of the park is more accessible and most visited. The North Rim requires a 220 mile drive to reach it from the South Rim.
Looking for the Skywalk. Wrong place. The Skywalk is located approximately 50 miles north of Kingman, Arizona, about 150 miles west of the South Rim, and is a private enterprise.
During the summer buses shuttle visitors to various parts of the park in order to keep the traffic down. The park is less crowed in fall and spring and easier to maneuver. Whenever you visit you will be surrounded by foreign vacationers and meeting and enjoying the park with them is a unique experience.
